Dawson Radio Authorisation

In August 2017 Dawson transitioned to a new P25 Digital UHF Conventional Radio network. All contractors are required to apply for Two-way Radio authorisation and purchase the appropriate radio equipment to comply with the new network.

All previously used analogue radios are now non-compliant and inoperable at Dawson.

Dawson is a large open cut metallurgical and export thermal mine, and is one of Australia’s longest established coal mines. Dawson has been underway since 1960 and is made up of three operating pits; North, Central and South. First mined in 1961 for export coal to Japan, it was the first mine to introduce draglines into its operation in 1963. Each year, Dawson mine produces coking, soft coking and thermal coal, using open cut and highwall mining methods. Coal is railed to Gladstone for export to Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and India.
